As far as a special effects-laden fantasy blockbuster goes, CLASH OF THE TITANS is reasonably entertaining enough.
But anyone expecting good plot and well-written characters will be sorely disappointed by this rather lackluster effort. Despite the movie's fantastical premise about mythical gods, the story is surprisingly ordinary. The characters, in the meantime, borderline between so-so to wooden performances. And speaking of wooden, Sam Worthington's supposedly interesting character as Perseus is anything but lifeless.
No doubt about it, since director Louis Leterrier is hardly known as a competent storyteller (see TRANSPORTER 2 and THE INCREDIBLE HULK). But he knows well how to stage spectacular action sequences, with the subtle aid of slow-motion, swooping camera angles and pulse-pounding music score that keeps the excitement going.
Still it's a terrible shame that the would-be epic battle against the mighty Kraken in the climatic finale quickly short-lived with an uninspired payoff.
Strictly for the undemanding.
