Remember HOT WHEELS? You know, that popular Mattel's die cast toy line? Here's a recap: Back in 2003, Columbia Pictures has planned to develop a feature movie with McG (TERMINATOR SALVATION) attached to direct. But the movie is left hanging in limbo for so long that HOT WHEELS has eventually becomes one of those movies suffered from "development hell".
However, interest in HOT WHEELS is back alive, with Legendary Entertainment in early negotiations with Mattel to acquire movie rights to the popular toy car line. Legendary Entertainment will be based the project under Warner Bros. studio.
No director or writers have been announced yet, but it is made clear that HOT WHEELS will not targeted for kids as many would expect. Instead, the plan to produce an edgier picture that echoes Universal's FAST FIVE.
