Now this is interesting. Syamsul Yusof's highly-anticipated action movie, KL GANGSTER, which currently showing in the local cinema nationwide has managed to shatter KONGSI's previous box-office opening record when they managed to gross the highest ticket during the first day show with RM1.5 million after it was shown in 81 theaters back in June 9.
Syamsul's father, Datuk Yusof Haslam who is the producer of KL GANGSTER said he was proud that his son's latest movie received a great response especially competing with two other foreign movies, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and SUPER 8, both of them which are currently playing in theaters as well. Here's what he had to say about the current success of KL GANGSTER.
"I’m touched that KL Gangster had broken Malaysia’s first day ticket sales record. The film was played at 81 movie theaters across the country and it’s under compulsory scheme for two weeks. Plus, this action genre film is also shown at 10 other independent theaters that are not binded with the scheme that was made by Finas (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia). I think that the sales would go up RM1.8 million if thing were the other way round. I also hope that this film is able to continue generating ticket sales. I don’t have any specific target on how much this film would be getting as it’s still too early to tell."
