Nine years after MINORITY REPORT (2002), Tom Cruise has finally chosen to head back into sci-fi territory. According to exclusive report by Deadline, he has signed on to star for Universal Pictures in OBLIVION. The movie will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, who had recently helmed TRON: LEGACY (2010). The movie is previously acquired by Disney, which is actually based on a Radical Publishing graphic novel, before the studio chooses to let it go and obtained by Universal instead.
In OBLIVION, Cruise will play a soldier who is trapped alone on the planet, repairing the drones that patrol and destroyed a savage alien life form. He encounters a beautiful woman who crashes in a craft, and their experience together prompts him to question his world view. The movie will be rated under PG-13.
Production will take place in October, with Universal Pictures invested $100 million for the movie.
