Peter Chan Ho-Sun's (THE WARLORDS) highly-anticipated martial-arts drama, WU XIA (formerly known as SWORDSMAN), will premiered globally on May 13 at the 64th annual Cannes Film Festival this year.
WU XIA is adapted from the classic Shaw Brothers martial-arts masterpiece, THE ONE-ARMED SWORDSMAN in 1967. That movie was of course starred martial-arts legend, Jimmy Wang Yu, who will be playing a cameo in Chan's version.
The cast which includes Donnie Yen, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Tang Wei, Li Xiaoran and Kara Hui will be in Cannes to promote their movie.
WU XIA will marked Peter Chan's first attempt on the martial-arts genre, following his gritty historical epic, THE WARLORDS in 2007 AND the romance musical PERHAPS LOVE in 2005.
It is reported that the director has opted a very different approach to demonstrate the physicality of martial-arts by focusing on some of the medical and scientific elements in the action choreography. Chan, is of course, hoping that his new project will reboot martial-arts genre in the world's filmmaking arena.
WU XIA is currently in post-production, and is set to release in theaters on September 28 this year.
