SEVEN SAMURAI Gets Remake Treatment

Akira Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI (1954) is widely regarded as the landmark movie in Japanese cinema that spawned countless inspirations around the world, notably for the Hollywood.

And now, the Weinstein Company has tapped British director Scott Mann (THE TOURNAMENT) to direct a remake of that landmark movie.

The movie which is budgeted at an estimated $60 million, will be fashioned as a contemporary version. The story centers on a town in Northern Thailand that recruits seven seven paramilitary contractors from around the globe to defend it from an imminent attack.

SEVEN SAMURAI is scheduled to hit theaters in 2014.
