Okay, why is this a big news? Well, for one, visionary director Robert Zemeckis has spent his last decade exploiting the filmmaking realm of motion-capture animation (e.g. THE POLAR EXPRESS, BEOWULF, A CHRISTMAS CAROL and this year's box-office dud MARS NEED MOM) and I bet (mostly) have longed for his comeback in directing live-action feature.
Speaking of live-action feature, his last such effort was 2000's CAST AWAY, the box-office marooned drama which starred Tom Hanks. That was 11 years back! But fear not, as words out from The Hollywood Reporter that Zemeckis is in talks to direct FLIGHT, a live-action drama centers on an alcoholic and drug-addicted pilot. When his plane's engine malfunctions, the pilot manages to rescue the aircraft and its passengers and thus becoming a national hero. However, when the FAA investigates and obtains evidence of drug abuse, it tries to sweep it to the side to help preserve the image of the captain, who is trying to change the course of his life.
FLIGHT will be distributed by Paramount, with Denzel Washington loosely attached to star in the drama.
