After a long and extensive search, Simon West is finally being picked as the director for THE EXPENDABLES 2, the sequel to the 2010 surprise hit action extravaganza. West has recently directed Jason Statham in THE MECHANIC (2011).
The original was previously written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, who also headlined the cast as well. But this time, Stallone has decided to hand off the directorial duties to someone he can trust so he can focus himself on the more intense and physical aspects his role demands. Still, the actor will be overseeing the project as a producer, as well as supervising how the action scenes are choreographed.
As of now, Stallone will be joining his original cast mates which includes Jason Statham, Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren. Bruce Willis is rumored to be joining Jean-Claude Van Damme as the movie's two main villains. The plot will be revolved around the death of Mickey Rourke's character.
THE EXPENDABLES 2 is scheduled to start shooting this late summer for summer 2012 release date.
