French filmmaker Alexandre Aja has long associated with nothing more than horror genre, as evident with HIGH TENSION, THE HILL HAVE EYES, MIRRORS, and PIRANHA 3D.
Now it's a refreshing change of pace to see Aja finally step out of his comfort zone and opted to bring a live-action adaptation of the popular cartoon COBRA: THE SPACE PIRATE into big screen.
Based on the Japanese manga by Buichi Terasawa, Aja will be writing the script with his regular collaborator Gregory Levasseur, who also produce the movie as well.
COBRA: THE SPACE PIRATE follows the eponymous rogue space pirate, a man who surgically altered his face and erases his own memory to hide from his enemies. Cobra subsequently recovers his lost memories and unites with old partner Lady Armaroid and his ship Tortuga. Together, the two set off on an adventure to retrieve lost treasure on Mars.
Frankly I don't remember there is such cartoon. Anyway, here is the promotional teaser poster below.
