Mattel's MAJOR MATT MASON Comes Alive From Tom Hanks' Playtone Productions!

Star-writer-director Tom Hanks and his Playtone production company are currently eyeing MAJOR MATT MASON as their next project after their upcoming romantic comedy, LARRY CROWNE, hits theaters on July 1 (U.S.) and July 14 (local), 2011. Tom Hanks will be producing, co-writing and starring in this outer space adventure. What's more, he is currently in talks to helm this project with Robert Zemeckis attached as the director. Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks had previously collaborated together with 1994's FORREST GUMP, 2000's CAST AWAY and 2004's THE POLAR EXPRESS.

Based on the 1966 Mattel action figure, MAJOR MATT MASON revolves around an astronaut who lives and works on the moon. There are three-man crew in Mason's team: civilian astronaut Doug Davis, blonde and blue-eyed Sgt. Storm, and African-American Lt. Jeff Long. All of them subsequently join forces with the giant alien Captain Lazer to fight the threat of hostile extraterrestrials.

MAJOR MATT MASON will be shot in 3D. Graham Yost (TV's Justified, SPEED, BROKEN ARROW) is attached to co-write the screenplay with Tom Hanks.

MAJOR MATT MASON is expecting to hit theaters in 2013.
