King Of Disaster Director Roland Emmerich Is Back... And It Could Be ASTEROIDS!

When comes to modern disaster movies, nobody does better than director Roland Emmerich. Need proof? THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW (2004) and 2012 (2009).

Now Universal Pictures is offering the director to helm the live-action video game adaptation called ASTEROIDS. Based on the iconic Atari shooter video game of the same name, the simple premise consists of a triangle shooting at large moving objects and UFOs. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON) is producing the movie, with Matt Lopez (RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN) penning the script.

According to the source, the storyline of ASTEROIDS will be set after the destruction of Earth. Mankind are struggling to survive in a far-flung colonies within an asteroid belt alongside aliens. At the beginning, the human survivors believe that the aliens are there to help them, but they soon realize that the aliens are the one responsible for Earth's destruction. Now the aliens are planning to do the same thing by eliminating the rest of the mankind.

No words on the production at this time, but ASTEROIDS is targeted for 2014 release date.
