Hollywood had done it three times of adapting Choderlos de Laclos' highly-popular French novel Les Liasons dangereuses in 1988's DANGEROUS LIAISONS, 1989's VALMONT and 1999's CRUEL INTENTIONS. French had done it as well, in 1959's LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES. Not to forget is the Korean, which had done it twice, in 1970's UIHEOMHAN GWANGYE and 2003's UNTOLD SCANDAL.
Now the Chinese is about to adapt their own version in Hur Jin-Ho's upcoming war-romance blockbuster entitled DANGEROUS LIAISONS. Apparently the Zonbo Media Company had recently revealed that three Asian superstars will join the cast. They are China's Zhang Ziyi, Hong Kong's Cecilia Cheung and South Korea's Jang Dong-Gun.
Zhang Ziyi, who is a female lead actress in the movie, broke record for Chinese female stars by pocketing a whopping 20 million yuan paycheck!
The Chinese version of Les Liaisons dangereuses is adapted by Yan Geling, which will be set in the 1930s Shanghai. The story revolves around the three-way relationship between Mo Jieyu (Cecilia Cheung), Xie Yifan (Jang Dong-Gun) and Du Yufen (Zhang Ziyi).
Shooting is expected to roll later this year.
